Lizard photo-shoot

Figured I'd post something, since I said I would like, several weeks ago.  =P

This lizard was a great photo subject.  He really hammed it up for the camera.  ^_^

Just chillin'.

"What are you lookin' at?"

"Make sure you get my good side."

"What did you just call me?"

"Hmmm...."

"Hey!  Up here!"

"I'm ready for my close-up."

And this shot is so awesome, it doesn't even need a witty caption.

Hooray for lizards!!!  ^_^

P.S.--No, the lizards in the last photo are NOT having sex.  One was just kinda laying there, and the other one proceeded to walk right over him/her.  =P

This blog is still alive!!

As the title clearly states, I have not given up on this blog.  True, I have not posted in a while, but that's just because I got lazy.  =P

I will post some more pictures, hopefully soon.

Until then,

Daddy

Pomen (godfather/uncle)

(picture missing)

Papa Joe (grandfather) d.o.b. unknown*, died June 2, 2006

Pa (grandfather) May 6, 1914 - November 6, 2004

And there you have it.  The main "fathers" in my life.

I really wish I had a picture of Papa Joe, but I don't.  If I ever find a good one, I'll scan it on here and post it.

Anyways...Happy Father's Day, everyone.  =)

*Note:  When I said "d.o.b. unknown", I meant that I can't remember when his birthday is, and I don't know what year he was born in.

Easter Vacation Part 2, or Pocking Eggs and also The Legendary Green Spider
I apologize for the gap between entries.  As I'm sure a few of you already know, photo-blog entries take a while to do.  =P
Anyways, on with the show!
I awoke fairly early on Easter morning, for no particular reason.  I thought about going outside for an early bike ride, but then I decided not to, for fear of my parents waking up and not knowing where I had gone.  I stayed in "bed" and played with my camera a bit.  I took a few "artsy" pictures through the window, but I was mostly just playing around.  They looked ok, but I ended up having to delete them later because I was running out of room on my memory card.  Ah well.  No biggie.  Trust me, I wouldn't have deleted them if they were that good.
Anyhow, the rest of my family eventually woke up as well.  My little brother and I dove into our Easter Baskets and Momma started making breakfast.  Eventually Garrett and Tyler came over to see what we were up to.  Garrett stayed outside to play on Daddy's boat.  I wasn't dressed, so I tried to take some pictures through the camper window.  I forgot the windows were tinted, so they're kinda dark.  But oh well.  I decided to post a couple of them anyway.  =)

When we were all dressed and such, we went outside.  Daddy went out in the boat, Momma went outside with Nanny and started cooking for lunch, and me and Josh just kinda sat outside and chilled.
While were sitting there, Josh noticed a spider on his bike.  Not just any spider, a green spider.  Yes, a green spider.  A very bright green spider.  In fact I think this thing could have glowed in the dark if it wanted to.  I took like, a million damn pictures of it, but only two of them came out clear.

And then I decided I wanted to make a video of it, for no particular reason.  It came out pretty blurry, but just follow the green dot.  lol

Note:  The voices you'll hear in the background at first are me and my little brother Josh.  Eventually you'll hear another voice, a man saying, "Aw, I almost did it, yeah!"  That's my Pomen.  The way I was kneeling to film the spider, my butt was kinda sticking up in the air.  So when he said, "I almost did it", he means he almost snuck up behind me and popped me with the washrag he was carrying with him.  He ended up doing it anyway, but I had fair warning.  =P

And there you have it.  The "legendary" green spider.

As some of you may already know, my grandfather passed away in 2004.  I don't really care to talk about it at the moment, but let's just say it was an extremely difficult time for me and leave it at that.

Anyway, while we were all eating lunch on Sunday, my Nanny leaned over to me and said, "Pa couldn't make it today, so he sent his truck in his place."  I looked over to where she was pointing, and sure enough, there was Pa's old truck.  I had forgotten that Uncle Danny drives it now.  I decided to take a picture of it, just because:

Here's a picture of Uncle Danny and Pomen:

And then Josh came along and Pomen made a sort of pose for the picture:

lol  I love the look on Josh's face in that one.  It's like, "What the hell are you doing taking a picture of me, huh?  You want a piece of me?"

*ahem*  Anyway, here is another picture of Josh, this time of him in mid-throw (even though it looks more like he's running) :

From left to right:  Nanny, Pomen, and Momma in one of her rare moments of smiling a real smile and not that damn plastic one she uses at work:

Then Daddy came back from fishing, and he placed one of his "live bait" on the table.  I'm not sure why it stayed so still while I took the picture, but I didn't ask any questions.  =P

And now for the moment you've all been waiting for.  (Or maybe not, I don't know.  It just sounded good.  lol)  It is now time for the pocking of the eggs.

First of all, that's not really how it's spelled.  It's a french word paque, but I'd just as soon spell it like it sounds.  Nobody really cares anyway, it's more of a spoken thing than something you write about.  Also, I didn't get nearly as many pictures of this as I did of the dying eggs thing.  But oh well.  I shall post what I have, and it shall do.

Anyway, when we pock eggs, what we do is we take the eggs we dyed the day before...

...and we each get one to start off with.

And now I shall describe the process, using this picture of Momma and Grandma as an example:

See how Grandma has her hand wrapped around the egg with one end pointing up?  And how Momma has her egg with one end pointing down?  Well, what Momma is doing is tapping one end of her egg on one end of Grandma's egg.  And what she's trying to do is crack Grandma's egg.  If she were to succeed, then Grandma would have to turn her egg over so Momma could try and crack the other side.  And if Momma's egg would crack instead, then she would have to turn hers over and try again to crack Grandma's egg.  Once somebody's egg is cracked on both ends, they can peel the shell and eat the egg.  Then they'd probably pick up another egg and try to pock with somebody else.

Here's another picture, this time with Garrett and Grandma.  (Apparently Grandma is winning.)

Obviously, the end result is going to be the same no matter what:  The eggs will get eaten.  But the general object of the "game" is for your egg not to get cracked.

Here are me and Garrett's eggs before (mine is the green one) :

And here is my egg after:

Apparently I lost.  =P

Daddy ended up being the "champion" because his egg didn't crack.  Here he is, holding up his winning egg and making a funny face:

Here are all the eggs after all the pocking was finished.  Normally we just eat them, but I guess nobody else was hungry since we had just eaten lunch.

Then the "grown-ups" sent me, Tyler, Josh, and Garrett inside so they could hide easter eggs for us to hunt.  (Not the previously mentioned pocking eggs.  These are the plastic kind.  lol)  By now, I'm old enough to be able to help out with the hiding of the eggs, but since we were the only "kids" there, they decided I could hunt instead.

Here's Garrett, holding up his most recent discovery:

Josh, looking over his shoulder and making sure he didn't miss any:

And then everybody joined in to help find that one last egg:

After all was said and done, we all sat back down at the tables and chilled out.  While doing so, I caught sight of a blue jay about six feet away:

Then it flew into a nearby tree, and I took a few more pictures:

Thank heavens for the zoom feature on my camera.  =)

Well, that's all the easter vacation pictures I have.  Ironically enough, I'll be going on yet another camping trip this weekend, so I'll probably have more pictures to post when I come back.

I hope you all enjoyed my vacation entries!!

Easter Vacation Part 1, or How to dye Easter Eggs
As those of you who read my regular blog know, I spent most of my Spring Break in Natchitoches with Ian and friends.  I went to join my family at Crooked Creek Campgrounds for Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.  And I took many many many many MANY pictures, each and every one of them with you guys in mind.  =)
Without further ado, let us begin.
Here is my Uncle Danny pouring my Aunt Kayla another glass of wine:

And here is my cousin Tyler (their son) making a weird smile:

This is Tyler's younger brother, Garrett.  He loves being in front of a camera.

This is Mrs. Barbara, a friend of Aunt Kayla's.  The man in the background holding Tyler in a headlock is her husband, Mr. Larry.

"Daddy, hold me."
Tyler thinking he's all cool with his cap on backwards:

"Tell me a story, Uncle Larry!"

"Daddy, I wanna play with your hat."

Then Tyler took a picture of my eye, for some reason:

Uncle Danny trying to get Aunt Kayla to dance:

Garrett climbing out of the storage space underneath the camper:

Smile for the camera!

Then it was time to dye the easter eggs, a process which I made damn sure to take a LOT of pictures for.  For those of you not familiar with the tradition, we take hard-boiled eggs and dye them all kinds of pretty colors.  Then what do we do with them?  Well, for that you'll have to wait until Part 2.  =)
Anyways, here we go!
Note:  Explanations will be placed along the way as needed.
The first step is to take out many various plastic containers, each of which will hold one egg.  A plastic cup works just as well, but these little containers came from an egg-dying kit, and they're a little bit easier to work with.
Garrett kindly volunteered to model the containers for us:

Once we had all the containers put out, we placed a little color tablet inside each one:

Next, we added a few teaspoons of vinegar to each cup, letting the tablets dissolve:

Then we added a little more vinegar, some boiling water, a few drops of food coloring (cuz those little tablets alone just don't cut it, man.  lol), and an egg.

And a spoon.  lol
Then we stir and rotate the eggs gently until they're evenly colored, adding a few more drops of food coloring here and there :

Then once the eggs are colored to our satisfaction, we place them in the tray to dry:

All the while with Uncle Danny heckling us from the sidelines:
I'm sure all of you will look at this next picture and say, "Eww, gross, what is that??"

That, my friends, is the foaming that took place after Garrett added a drop of every single food coloring there was.  But lo and behold, once the foaming had subsided, this is what resulted:

Pretty cool, huh?  =)

I absolutely LOVE this next picture.  Obviously, this is what I have as my current userpic.  Honestly, I didn't expect this one to come out at all.  I wasn't even trying.  I was just messing around, and I decided I wanted to take a picture of the cup from above.  I didn't think the flash was going to come on, but I guess I was in the shadows or something, because it did.  And it created an AWESOME effect on the picture.  The reflection caused by the flash showed the sky and trees above me, as well as me holding the camera in my hands.  I was like, "Kick ass."

The last egg we colored was an interesting experiment.  We took all the liquid we had been using and poured it into one big tall cup, to see what color egg it would make.  And whadya know...it made a golden egg.  Kinda.

As Tyler clearly demonstrates, dying eggs is sometimes a messy business:

Don't worry, Garrett.  You'll see those eggs again soon.

And that concludes the first installment of my Easter Vacation Photo-Blog.  I hope you all enjoyed it.  =)
Stay tuned for more coming up in the next day or so!!
